breast cancer is the pits!

this post is because i am so very thankful to have a special lady in my life. her name is Rose.

she has been healthy all her life, if i say how old she is she will do me in! the one day it was time for her mammogram and it showed that she had developed breast cancer…oh how scared we all were for her. but she took it one day at a time, had the biopsies, had the lumpectomy and went through a course of oral meds, luckily it was caught early…and she is fine and great!

i am also thankful for my mothers recovery from kidney cancer and then lung cancer. whew! we thought we had lost her for sure….but she’s tough and persevered and is doing great for 83 years young. i am thankful for my mother-in-law and her recovery from breast cancer. she too is tough and did what was expected of her and she is a very healthy older lady, again if i say how old, i will be done for!!!!

let us all take time to say our thanks for the past year/s. and thanks for the future, whatever it portends.

until next time,

this past fall was apple butter making season…i had not participated in this family activity since i was a child…well…can i tell you how much fun this was? it was cooked the old fashioned way, outside over an open flame in a copper pot/s. long handled stirrers were used so as to minimize the burning from the bubbling of the apple butter. lots of sugar and cinnamon oil was used as well. when cooking was complete the jars were filled and lids put on and processed.

after bringing them home, i simply could not leave well enough alone. the jars NEEDED decoration! they turned out so stinking cute! and for the other side of the family, these became part of their christmas gifts. so very much appreciated…

this was an all day process. we had the “older” generation (great  gramma and grandpa’s, down to the wee ones ( the greats ). what a lovely reunion! of course, any excuse for a reunion/party in this family is a good one!!

this reminds me to be thankful for a truly loving and supportive family. my wish for you all is the same. we have our dramas like everyone else, but when push comes to shove…just try to break us apart…it will NOT work!!

best wishes and love to you all,

until next time,

irish love

this past november a darling second cousin was married to a lovely irish guy…in fact they are both lovely irish folk!! so…what would be more fitting than a pillow showing that heritage?

firstly, the background fabric is a hand dyed fabric that i found at a quilt show vendors booth. quite the find eh? it spoke to me and had been waiting for the right project to appear.

secondly finding the “right” celtic medallion to machine embroider was a task, but after much web surfing it was found!! and there was a celtic heart with it…so lucky to find them.

thirdly, designing the whole pillow top..downloading the celtic medallion was done…then placing the names of the couple so as to balance and overload the top…done. then adding the wedding date, again, no overloading!…done. then it needed a touch more. the addition of a border repeat, with hearts. and there it is!

the background fabric is the softest cotton batik, just yummy to touch. the medallion and font work and the lace are of a green rayon embroidery thread. so a slight sheen to the dullness of the cotton, nice contrast i thought.

well, the couple sent the loveliest thank you note. so appreciative of the thought that went into it and the love that went into the making. they are a very nice couple. their mom’s and dad’s brought them up well!!

hope to hear from you about how you like it , how you would change it, etc…

until next time…
